The determination of flow parameters in a low-permeability clay was made possible by long-term observation pressure and flow rate data and the consideration of the precise experimental set-up composed of two parallel boreholes with three observation sections each. Using 3D modelling and properly specified geometry and conditions, it has been possible to determine the water flow properties of the Callovo–Oxfordian Clay at the decameter scale, which is a unique determination in tight clay.
In the context of geological repositories for radioactive waste, hydraulic packer testing has been performed in deep boreholes located at the edge of the Northern Alpine Molasse Basin. Our presentation will give an overview on methodologies and workflows with emphasis on the numerical design and analysis techniques applied to the hydraulic packer tests. The applied methodology provided high-quality results and reliable estimates of the hydraulic conductivities in the low-permeability rocks.
