Short summary
This article traces the development of risk perception regarding water around the Nuclear Research Centre Karlsruhe from 1956 to 1997. Different expectations clashed: the federal hopes for progress after Second World War met local values of the home and its environment. Various conflicts arose and opponents made use of their past lived-knowledge to foster their arguments against future decision-making.
